Enrolments for 2025
We encourage parents and caregivers to contact the school as soon as possible to make us aware of your intentions, whether living inside or outside our school zone. If you are living outside our zone there is a 'cut-off' date by which parents/caregivers must apply for enrolment. Please read below about the dates and the process for enrolment.

Enrolment applications for students living outside our zone are invited from parents who would like their children to attend Durie Hill School at any time in 2025. The application form is not time consuming - please email us about this or to receive a copy.
To help us with our planning, we ask that parents with children living within our school's zone contact us as early as possible to advise of prospective enrolments.
By 1 September, the school's board of trustees will determine how many places are likely to be available for out-of-zone students for the following year.
The exact number of places available for students living outside the zone will depend on the number of enrolments received from students who live inside the school’s home zone. All students living inside our zone are automatically able to attend, regardless of when they are due to enrol.
For students living outside our zone, the following timeline will apply for parents wishing for their children to attend our school at any time in 2025.

Enrolment Pack
If you have decided for your child to attend our school you will need an enrolment pack. This should be picked up as soon as possible after making your decision. The enrolment pack contains:
- An enrolment form
- An information sheet explaining some important routines and procedures, along with selected school policy statements.
- 2024 Stationery Lists
- The enrolment form will need to be completed and received before your child can officially start school. It can help if your child visits the school before their first day, although this is not always possible, and not always essential.
New Entrant Enrolment (Children entering school for the first time)
For our 5 year-olds a pre-visit is recommended. The Tui / Junior Team Leader (Lana Hook) will contact you to arrange this.
Before an organised pre-visit, a good idea is to come up to the school during a weekend just to spend time in the playground.
The Pre-visit
A pre-visit is recommended to take place within one month of your child starting school. The visit is normally between 9:00 am and 12:15 pm. It is important to come about 15 minutes before the start of the day to allow time for your child to settle before you leave.
Children should bring their bag with their morning tea. Your child will be buddied with another child for morning tea. Your child will not need books, pencils, or other stationery items for the pre-visit.
In most cases children will have one pre-visit, however further visits can be arranged with the teacher if necessary.
Stationery packs and sunhats for new entrants are available from the school office and can be purchased on the day of the pre-visit. Any remaining things such as completion of paperwork can also be taken care of after your child is in their room.
For new entrants, in addition to returning the enrolment form, the following certificates must also be received by the school:
- Signed Immunisation Certificate
- Original copy of your child’s Birth Certificate (these can be obtained from the Registrar of Births, Deaths and Marriages, PO Box 10526, Wellington).
On the first day of school
Most children start school on or soon after their 5th birthday. Please come to the school office between 8:30 – 8:50 am. Your children should have their bag with morning tea, lunch, water bottle, and their stationery items as arranged with the teacher.
